Church Visit Summer 2010

Bedford

Our next event was the summer outing, this was a visit to St Andrews Church Bedford where we welcomed two new members and presented Janet Lindsay with a Long Service Certificate. Janet Lindsay now enjoys the position of Verger Emeritus at St Andrews having served as its Verger for 25 Years. Tony Kempson and David Jones from All Saints Church Leighton Buzzard were admitted as Full Members by Revd Canon Peter Palmer during Evensong.

This takes our membership to 31.  Janet was presented with her certificate and flowers during the service as well.  Again this had been arranged without her prior knowledge. My brother and I successfully managed to get these into the church without most people seeing them. The visit started with a welcome and talk about the Church by Revd Canon Dr Christopher Dent. We then joined the congregation for their annual tea party which due to the inclement weather was held in the church hall rather than the Vicarage Garden. Nevertheless there was an excellent spread and even  I found lots of things I could eat!!.

At the sung Evensong Service that followed, there were 14 members in a robed procession at the start and end of the service. Revd Canon Peter Palmer gave a very interesting and thought provoking sermon based on the words of the last hymn as the readings allotted for the day were less inspiring!!!.  Our thanks go to Gareth Burrows for organising this and the team at St Andrews for a very enjoyable afternoon.
